Uganda Looks for Energy Partner to Explore Albertine Oil Block

Uganda has officially launched a search for a joint venture (JV) partner to help explore and develop one of its key oil blocks, signaling its continued push to unlock the country’s vast hydrocarbon potential.

The call for partnership comes as the East African nation accelerates efforts to attract foreign investment and technical expertise into its energy sector, ahead of the planned launch of commercial oil production in 2025. The government aims to leverage the JV structure to share risk, enhance exploration efficiency, and ensure knowledge transfer to local institutions.

According to Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the targeted oil block lies within the Albertine Graben region, a geologically rich area believed to hold billions of barrels of crude oil.

Official Partner

Officials are inviting international oil companies and energy investors to express interest, offering incentives such as favorable fiscal terms, access to new seismic data, and integration with upcoming infrastructure projects like the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

Uganda is positioning itself as a rising energy player in sub-Saharan Africa, with hopes that a successful JV deal will not only boost its oil ambitions but also stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and expand regional energy cooperation.
